Bonefish Grill in Stuart Hosts Luncheon for Youth Mentoring Supporters

The talented staff at Bonefish Grill in Stuart volunteered to serve youth, their families, and supporters. Attendees enjoyed the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer, salad, and a delicious entrée followed by raffles from their exclusive wine list. The luncheon would not have been possible without former Board Member and Bonefish Grill Managing Partner, Alan Armstrong. He knows the importance of giving back as a local business and loves to hear directly from the kids in Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Big Brothers Big Sisters was excited to share the official launch of the School to Work program in Martin County. High school students will learn life skills, financial literacy, paths to trades or college workshops, and are paired with a local business to complete a paid internship. Alumni mentee Jocelyn Adhemar, now 20 years old, spoke about his experience in the Big Brothers Big Sisters internship program with his Big Brother/mentor. Jocelyn was just 14 at Stuart Middle School and Raymond had signed up to mentor while working at Stuart Jet Center and now works side by side with Jocelyn. Over the past six years, Raymond has showed his mentee how the aviation industry works, trained him in towing planes, encouraged him to pursue college, and is excited to announce that Jocelyn has graduated Indian River State College to pursue his future in Kinesthesiology.

Bigs in Blue Stuart Police officers shared their experiences mentoring and Big of the Year was awarded to Cathy Glover, Adam Schmitt, Betsy Smith, and Sophie McClung. Notable attendees included representatives from the Children’s Services Council of Martin County, M.E.’s Team Foundation, Stuart Police Department, Bank of America, William and Helen Thomas Charitable Trust, The Martin County Library, The First Tee of the Treasure Coast, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters board members, staff, parents, volunteers (“Bigs”) and program participants (“Littles”).
