About Us:
Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Martin County was founded in 1986. It is one of more than
500 affiliates nationwide. Our national organization is the largest,
oldest, and most respected mentoring organization in the U.S. Big
Brothers Big Sisters school-based mentoring has been proven to have
a significant, positive impact on children in the program. A recent
national study reported:

students developed more positive attitudes toward school
58% achieved
higher grades in social studies, languages, and math
60% improved
relationships with adults, and 56% improved relationships with
peers
55% were
better able to express their feelings
64% developed
high levels of self-confidence
62% were more
likely to trust their teachers
77% of
teachers, parents, and volunteers in the pilot program reported
increases in students' self-confidence, and the number of
unexcused absences decreased.

promoted to their next grade.
Our funding
comes primarily through performance – based grants and private
gifts. Our major funders include: Children’s Services Council
of Martin County; Florida Department of Education; United Way
of Martin County; The Community Foundation of Palm Beaches and
Martin Counties; Hobe Sound Community Chest; and Workforce
Development Board.
